The oft-told story of Horatio Spafford and his writing of the text “It Is Well With My Soul” is as heartbreaking as it as inspirational. It is also somewhat incomplete. In this video, we share the story of the hymn, plus explore more of the Spafford’s story than is usually told.

In the later years of their lives, the Spaffords’ lives took surprising turns, and their faith wandered far from where it was when Horatio wrote his most famous hymn text. There are lessons for all of us here. Just because our faith is strong and secure at some point in time doesn’t mean we won’t be challenged to wander off the path. Living a life of faith is an ongoing commitment.
